Report : The Demographic Change - Impacts of New Technologies and Information Society

31/12/2005
By Lutz Kubitischke (Empirica), Kevin Cullen (Work Research Centre)

Population ageing will have significant socio-economic implications and represents a major challenge to social protection systems in the EU. Yet, it also creates new opportunities for the European economy, notably through the development of innovative technological responses to the changing needs of an ageing population. The study by Empirica (Germany) looks in particular at improved access to ICT and at the potential of ICT for promoting labour force participation of older workers and for helping older people to remain longer independent.
